We believe that all projects have the potential for excellence, regardless of scale, scope or budget, and that a thoughtful and considered design process is the key to unlocking this value.
Our integrated teams develop our client partner’s project aspirations collaboratively through an evidence based design approach that unifies the commercial, social and economic imperatives of the project, through shared visions that are both creative and creatively pragmatic.
We deliver ‘best for project’ design through targeted collaborations with like-minded design practices, ensuring that we resource projects with ‘best for project’ personnel both from within our studio, and through our national and international network of industry leading designers. We encourage a practice-wide culture of questioning, assessment and improvement in everything we do.
Archipelago is a continental mass made of islands; a metaphor for a way of practicing with collaboration at our core. Our team is motivated by the unexpected outcomes that result from opening up dialogue and engaging with both communities, stakeholders and experts in the field. We bring together clients, governments, communities, designers, and consultants to deliver complex and unique projects that go beyond architecture.
Our multi-disciplinary in-house team also includes experts in urban planning, landscape architecture, sustainable design strategies, and interior design. We explore innovation in digital technologies, model making, guidelines and strategic urban planning and resource management strategies.
As design leaders on large and complex projects, we advocate enquiry by design through the workshop model as an effective medium for rapid engagement and results driven outcomes.
Design workshops allow us to engage with diverse stakeholders to better measure the latent potential of significant projects, and to investigate creative, lateral solutions to complex problems. Advocacy from the participants is implicit in this collaborative methodology.
We foster a practice-wide culture of questioning, assessment and improvement in everything we do. Archipelago also maintains a third party accredited AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015 compliant Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure that our project quality objectives are satisfied and that our processes are continuously improving
