Millennium Square

Millennium Square

[ master planning ]

Millennium Square is a world class workplace for News Corp within the heart of a new and vibrant, digitally-savvy urban precinct within Bowen Hills attracting media-oriented urbanistas.

Envisioned as an extension of the Brisbane CBD, the master plan delivers the vision for Australia’s first ‘mediapolis’ collocating new knowledge media businesses in a world-class workplace within a vital and vibrant urban precinct. The News Corp sponsored development plan has already attracted considerable national and international attention, and promises an exciting growth space for media innovation in Australia.

By working to convert development challenges into win-win, city making opportunities, we were able to offer News Corp a bold urban strategy that has completely re-positioned the possibilities for an exemplar urban centre.
— Peter Edwards, Project Lead

Following an evaluation of the development potential for the News Corp Bowen Hills site, the News Precinct Concept was proposed. The evaluation found the site to hold significant potential as a transformative project in line with the emerging knowledge and technology focus for this corridor of the city. The site itself sits within the Economic Development Queensland’s (EDQ) Bowen Hills Priority Development Area (effective from July 2009) – a site identified for urban renewal to provide a mix of residential, commercial/retail/office, industrial and open space, located three kilometres from the Brisbane CBD and in close proximity to transport and community infrastructure.
